Being a good cook is not just about skill but gaining a background knowledge that helps you choose the right menus and shop for the best ingredients. So our courses are held around a table and not at cooking stations. Rose demonstrates some of the cooking, but you will also participate in practical skills, learning new techniques, honing others. This means we talk a lot together, share experiences and gain a much deeper understanding of a better approach to cooking. That is why it is important to sit down and eat together when all is ready; taste the food, share opinions, talk about wines, entertaining conundrums and more – we’d also like to make friends in our cooking lessons.
The One-Day Cooking Lesson:
It's simple: we meet at 10am, prepare four dishes together – a first course, a meat main course and a fish or vegetable main course, and a pudding. Then we sit down and eat what we have cooked with a glass or two of wine; try one or two local cheeses, have coffee, chat some more and say a fond good-bye at approximately 3pm. Classics, new ideas and some surprises – the food you will learn about is flexible in style but based on the tried and tested discipline of seasonality. It makes sense to cook with ingredients that are enjoying a glut and are abundant, but it also feels right for you and the people you cook for. That does not mean you cannot explore and try new ingredients and flavours from far off shores. Rose’s British food encompasses our piratical interest in other food cultures while sourcing the best fresh local foods.

Four Seasons Discounts – Add to your repertoire of recipes by booking four courses a year in Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Bring a Friend – Two person discounts are available. Give a unique present - If you would like to give a course to a friend, Rose can send a signed copy of one of her cookbooks with a course voucher inside to the recipient.

Special Courses, Events & Groups:
Over the year there will be occasional specialist courses such as sourdough baking, butchery and sausages, game cookery and fish cookery, pickling and preserving, student cooking or healthy eating. If there is anything particular you would like to learn about, call us to discuss. “Cooking Parties” are available for numbers up to twenty – we supervise and tutor food preparation with you and up to four of your friends in the afternoon. Then there is time to relax and dress before the remaining guests join you in the Rectory or its garden for drinks and the food you have made.
We can also ‘tailor’ cooking courses for groups, including accommodation for up to 6 individuals and 6 couples for short breaks, corporate, family or friends and even pre-wedding (hen & stag) parties. Meals will be cooked by Rose and her team, and local excursions can also be organised.
